The Meaning of Christmas

The problem with Christmas is that we settle for too little. For many of us the holiday parties, Christmas decorations, and eggnog have all added up to the meaning of Christmas. Sometimes even in the church we focus more on the celebration more than what we are celebrating. As we study John chapter one today, John is unique to the other gospel writers who focus on the things surrounding the birth of Jesus, but instead seeks tell us what all these things mean. Come and be changed by the true meaning of Christmas this morning, so that every day can be a celebration.

The very first thing that comes to mind when most people think of stewardship is money. And as we have learned in the past three weeks, money, along with time and talents are very important aspects of trust that God graciously gives to us. One of the most outlandish but effective schemes of the devil in stealing God's glory has been the perversion of Christmas. What was purposed to be a Holy Mass honoring the birth of Jesus Christ has become a gross celebration of Santa Claus, reindeer and buying lavish gifts. But what about Jesus? What are you giving JESUS for HIS birthday present this year? As we continue in our series the Stewardship of Life, we will see that God has entrusted us with, time, talents and treasures that are rightfully to be offered to the Lord through a life of sacrificial worship. God's Truth About Money

People don't like hearing about or talking about money in the church. For some reason, money has become a taboo matter in the church. Kenneth Hwang was born in Seoul, South Korea on October 18, 1977 and moved to the states shortly after. After having grown up in DC, NY, and CT, he went to college in the Boston area at Tufts University where he graduated with a major in sociology. After receiving his calling to full-time ministry his sophomore year in college, Ken decided to go to Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary where he graduated in 2002 with his Master of Divinity. After serving as a college pastor, praise leader, and youth pastor at various churches, Ken recently made the decision to become an assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel Newport News in Virginia earlier this year overseeing the outreach, praise team, and young adults ministry at the church. In 2006, Ken married his beautiful wife Jeanyoung and have been happily serving the Lord together since. Ken loves music, sports, and ministering to people of all different backgrounds and cultures.

Dan Baumann is a servant of the Lord Jesus, who grew up in southern California and completed his undergraduate studies at Wheaton College. Upon graduation, Dan joined Youth with a Mission (YWAM) and worked in Kabul, Afghanistan as a hospital administrator for 8 years. In 1997, during a short visit to Iran, Dan was incarcerated by the Iranian Government and faced 2 death sentences of which he was acquited and released after 9 weeks. Currently, when Dan is not traveling on speaking and teaching engagements worldwide, he resides and serves at the YWAM training base in Kona, Hawaii, where he disciples and encourages people to walk in the ways of Jesus.
